Skipjacks Take Two From Baseball Saturday

ARNOLD, MD – Visiting Chesapeake College of Maryland took two games from host Anne Arundel Community College in NJCAA Division II Region XX baseball action Saturday, winning the opener 8-0 before taking the nightcap, 16-4.

The Skipjacks (20-10, 6-6) hit three home runs in the game, adding to a 3-0 lead in the fifth on two solo shots. A three-run home run in the seventh capped the scoring.

Riverhawks game one starter Zachary Rees struck out eight before bowing out in the fifth inning. Tripp Templeton struck out one in the final 2.1 innings of work.

In the nightcap, Chesapeake built an 11-0 lead through four innings before Anne Arundel (10-23, 6-14) scored four runs in the fourth. A five-run fifth for the Skipjacks closed out the game.

Chesapeake took a 2-0 lead in the first on a Christian Murphy home run to the deepest part of the park, followed by a two-out RBI double from pitcher Evan Antonellis. Antonellis struck out five, walked six, and gave up five hits in 3.2 innings of work.

The Skipjacks added four in the top of the second on five hits, and added four in the fourth included a three-run home run from Livan Reinoso.

AACC answered back in the bottom of the inning in a two-out rally. The Riverhawks scored one on a bases loaded walk and another on a wild pitch before Shelby Wheeler drove in two with a double to left center.

Adan Reinoso led off the fifth with a home run for the Skipjacks as the visitors added five runs on five hits and an error in the inning.

In the bottom of the frame, Ryan Key got on via walk, stole second, and took third on a wild pitch, but a fly out ended the threat.

Starter Matthew Conlon took the loss of the Riverhawks. Caleb Musco struck out four in 2.2 innings of relief, and Hayden Buhaj closed out the game pitching the final four outs of the game.

AACC travels to Virginia Sunday for a doubleheader against the Shenandoah University JV team. The first game is scheduled for 1 pm.
