Baseball Fends Off CCBC-Catonsville Rally, Wins 9-8

CATONSVILLE, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team built and early lead and held off a CCBC-Catonsville rally in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Cardinals, 9-8, in MD JUCO action Tuesday afternoon.

Blake Rebstock went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI and also earned the save after taking the mound in the ninth. Rebstock inherited a bases-loaded situation with no outs, quickly striking out one and inducing a fly out before allowing three runs to score on a wild pitch and a single. The Cardinals' comeback bid ended there, however, as Rebstock stranded two on the bases with a fly out to center.

Andrew Revels also had two hits and an RBI for the Riverhawks (10-20, 6-11). He drove in Noah Rafsky in the first with a double and came around on a Rebstock single to give AACC an early 2-0 lead.

A two-run single down the left field line from Nick Carpio tied it up in the bottom of the frame, but AACC took the lead for good in the third as Revels scored on a Cardinals' error.

The Riverhawks added three runs in the fifth, scoring one when Drew Ehrlich was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, followed by a two-run single from Rebstock.

AACC extended the lead to 8-2 in the sixth on Hayden Buhaj's first career home run, a solo shot to right. A sac fly from Ehrlich accounted for the second run.

A two-out, three-run triple from Moises Aristy, Jr., brought the Cardinals within three at 8-5, in the bottom of the seventh. The hit chased out AACC starter John Iaquinta, who struck out nine and allowed five hits in 6.2 innings. With the win, Iaquinta moves to 3-3 on the season.

A Rebstock sac fly in the ninth gave the Riverhawks a four-run cushion before the Cardinals mounted their comeback.

AACC (10-20, 6-11) next travels to CCBC-Essex Thursday for a 3:30 pm single game.
