Game 1 Notes

            AACC Riverhawks snatched the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over USC Sumpter on Tuesday (2/27) hosted in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina part of their Ripken Baseball Experience trip. The Riverhawks trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning before Ryan Richardson (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) came through with a double. 

The Riverhawks got things started in the first inning when Leonard Lehner (Edgewater, MD/South River) singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. USC Sumpter evened things up at three in the top of the fifth inning when Young singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Christopher Clyde (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) was the winning pitcher for AACC as he went one and one-third innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out three and walking one. Brady Helinski (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Hunt took the loss for USC Sumpter as he lasted two innings, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out four. Carroll started the game for USC Sumpter. He went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out two. Dustin Gosnell (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) started the game for AACC and lasted three innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out four.

Brady Ward (Odenton, MD/Arundel) went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Riverhawks in hits.

Game 2 Notes

AACC holds off USC Sumpter as an 8-run deficit is nearly erased.

The Riverhawks got out to an eight-run lead in the third inning and held on for a 13-11 victory over USC Sumpter in game two of the double header on Tuesday. USC Sumpter scored six runs in the failed comeback on a sacrifice fly by Strader, a walk by Kalick, a walk by Hanna, a walk by Gonzalez, a single by Young, and a fielder's choice by Mangum.

AACC took the lead for good with 11 runs in the third inning. In the third Brady Ward tripled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs, David Rogers (Macon, GA/Annapolis) singled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs, Tony Davis (Waldorf, MD/North Point) singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs, an error scored one run for the Riverhawks, Lucas Boulter (Laurel, MD/Meade) doubled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs, and Christopher Clyde's sac fly scored one run for the Riverhawks. Ryan Richardson earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for AACC as he lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out four.

            The Riverhawks have a few more double headers scheduled for their trip down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina part of the Ripken Baseball Experience. A double header against Brunswick Community College (2/28) starting at 2:30 pm, then a single game against Suffolk Community College (3/1), while also looking to pick up another single game before heading home to MD.
