Riverhawk Women's Lacrosse Finishes Top in the Nation Academically

ARNOLD, MD – The Riverhawk women's lacrosse team received yet another accolade for their successful season, earning 2017-18 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year. The prestigious recognition is given each year to teams who have achieved the highest GPA in their respective sport.

"I am very proud of the young ladies on the team for demonstrating what being a student-athlete should represent," states Head Coach of the time Jim Griffiths. "They demonstrated this spring, and in the past, that it is possible to excel both academically and athletically. Their desire to be successful in both areas is truly what being a college athlete is all about."

Modest in his description to say the least, the women's team finished the season with a loss in the semi finals of the NJCAA national tournament. On the season the team had four athletes earn All-Region, nine athletes earn All-Conference as well as an All-Conference player of the year, and three athletes earning All-American.

In reference to coach Griffiths acknowledgement of excelling academically, the women's team also finished with six student athletes making AACC AD Honor Roll, four athletes earning Region XX and Conference (MD JUCO) All-Academic honors, and four athletes earning national NJCAA All-Academic honors – all in addition of course, to this latest team honor.

Putting Anne Arundel Community College among the nationally esteemed list, the Riverhawk women's lacrosse program garnered the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors by achieving a cumulative team GPA of 3.23, the highest of all women's lacrosse programs throughout the NJCAA.

"I couldn't be more impressed or pleased with the announcement of AACC women's lacrosse team as NJCAA Academic Team of the Year," said AACC Athletic Director Duane Herr. "This award includes the entire academic year which means these young women maintained stellar academics in both semesters, even while competing on a nationally ranked lacrosse team. Some of them were dual student-athletes, managing two sports while committing to their academic success. They epitomize the term student-athlete and have represented AACC at a high level both on the field and most importantly, in the classroom."

Congratulations to the 2017-18 Riverhawk women's lacrosse team for such a tremendous season on the field, and in the classroom.
